Services for Charles “Charlie” J. Hein, 86, Fort Recovery and Bradenton, Fla., are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fort Recovery with the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. He died Tuesday at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.
Born in Avon, Ohio, to Xavier and Lotus Mae (Roberts) Hein, he was a 1945 graduate of Coldwater (Ohio) High School.
Preceding him in death on Feb. 15, 2006, was his wife Mildred (Reichert) Hein whom he married on June 14, 1951, in Osgood, Ohio.
A member of the 348th Army Band, he was owner of Hein Insurance Agency, was a trustee for Wright State University and honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Memberships include Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight, American Legion, Fort Recovery Chamber of Commerce, where he served as president, Ambassadors of Fort Recovery, Mercer County Health Board, Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fort Recovery and Mary Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Bradenton, Fla.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Armstrong (husband: Tim), Richmond, Mary Beth McLaughlin, Loveland, Ohio, and Margo Johnson (husband: Doug), Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons, Chuck Hein (wife: Angelika), Fort Recovery, Jon Hein (wife: Rose), Greenville, Ohio, and Dan Hein (wife: Amy), Cincinnati; two sisters, Mildred Tangeman (husband: Dale), Coldwater, Ohio, and Shirley Larger, Fort Loramie, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the church. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery in Fort Recovery.
