A memorial honoring a slain Indiana conservation officer will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in rural Jay County.

Officer James D. Pitzer died of a single gunshot wound to the face on Jan. 2, 1961 when he stopped a pair of paroled felons for a conservation law violation.

Conservation officers and Jay County Sheriff Dwane Ford, a retired conservation officer, will gather for the event on county road 850 East between county roads 500 South and 550 South, the scene of the crime.
