Giving grant
Pictured at left is Rosie Clamme, grant committee co-chair of The Women’s Giving Circle of The Portland Foundation, donating a $1,000 grant it received to Mary Helen Rigby of the Trinity United Methodist Church Food Cabinet.   • Church stays open
    The caretaker of a small country church is determined to keep it open, even with only five worshippers attending Sunday services. 
  • A Fun Night will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. 
  • Hopewell of Life Ministries will have a Thanksgiving dinner following the 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday. 
  • Work in Progress, a gospel music group from Cincinnati, Ohio, will perform from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Swiss Village, 1350 W. Main St., Berne, as part of Saturday Night at the Village. 
  • State of the Heart Hospice will host its annual Holiday Remembrance Gathering at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland. 
  • All Saints Fair will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shrine of the Holy Relics, 2291 S. Johns Road, Maria Stein, Ohio. 
  • A Dunkirk native wants to use his musical talent to give back to his hometown by performing a free trumpet recital at 3 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Dunkirk. 
  • Bryant Wesleyan Church will have a Homecoming celebration Sunday in honor of its 130th year. 
  • Uncommon Quartet, from Anderson, will perform at 9 a.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 323 S. Meridian St. in Portland. 
  • Church to celebrate
    St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1689 St. Joe Road in Fort Recovery, will celebrate its 175th anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Archbishop Dennis Schnurr as the principal celebrant. 
  • Temple Baptist Church will host a tent revival with special speaker Pastor Randall Glenn. 
  • Noble Congregational Christian Church will have its ‘Blast from the Past,’ beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday. 
  • The second annual block party will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 2nd Chance @ Life Ministry. 
  • Pastor felt drawn to little church
    After being closed for several years, the doors to a little country church in Jay County are open again and the new pastor feels he was led there by God. 
  • The 11th Annual Bluegrass Gospel Jamboree will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Union Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
